Where can I find the cmdtyView Excel download?

Do I need to install new updates of cmdtyView Excel for each new release?

No. We leverage technology from Microsoft called ClickOnce which provides an auto-update option whenever a new release is pushed to production.

Do I need Admin rights in order to install cmdtyView Excel?

Yes and no. The install package checks to see if the .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later and VSTO are currently installed, and this preliminary check requires Admin rights. If your PC meets the minimum requirements for .NET and VSTO but you don’t have Admin rights, you can still install cmdtyView Excel by opening this link in Internet Explorer.

What are the minimum software requirements for running cmdtyView Excel?

The minimum software requirements for cmdtyView Excel are as follows:

  • Microsoft Windows 8 or Windows 10

  • Microsoft Excel 2013, Excel 2016 or Excel 2019

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later

What are the minimum hardware requirements for running cmdtyView Excel?

The minimum software requirements for cmdtyView Excel are as follows:

  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor

  • 2 gigabyte (GB) of RAM for 32-bit or 4 GB for 64-bit

  • 16 GB hard disk space

  • 800 x 600 display

Is cmdtyView Excel firewall friendly?

Yes. cmdtyView Excel uses a communications protocol called WebSockets which provides a persistent connection between a client and server in a firewall friendly manner.

Does cmdtyView Excel run on Office 365?

It does, but the downloaded version of Excel 2019 is required as the browser based version of Excel for Office 365 does not support RTD.

Where are my log files located?

We do a fair amount of logging for cmdtyView Excel and the first step in the troubleshooting process should always be to grab the log files and send them over to our support crew at real-time@barchart.com.

The log files are located in C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Roaming\Barchart\cmdtyView Excel where ‘your_user_name’ is the name of the local user of the PC where you’re grabbing the log files from. The aforementioned directory is hidden by default and will need to be unhidden by going to your Control Panel and selecting the option to Show all Files and Folders.

Does cmdtyView Excel run on a Mac?

The cmdtyView Excel add-in utilizes something called RTD which is inherent to Microsoft Excel on the Windows OS. While it doesn’t run natively on a Mac, you may run it on a Windows virtual such as Parallels, Virtualbox or one of the many virtuals which allow you to run Windows on a Mac.

Am I required to run cmdtyView Desktop in order power cmdtyView Excel?

No. cmdtyView Excel is its own stand-alone service which can operate independent of the cmdtyView Desktop or in parallel to.

Is cmdtyView Excel included with my cmdtyView subscription?
